When I first became a mother I was obsessed with baby gadgets. When I registered for my first baby shower I basically signed up for every little technical toy I could that seemed to make parenting easier. Rookie mistake! So when I got a media invite for the Brooklyn Baby Expo, I was excited because I wanted to see what was new in the baby market for my current baby and for future reference.
He event was held close to downtown Brooklyn and on a Sunday. Since I had to usher first service, I got there halfway through the event. (Not to mention that both trains that go to the event were out of service! The NYC commuter struggle is REAL) when I arrived I was provided a press pass (still adjusting to that!).
I went straight to the media room because the check in lady mentioned food and she didn’t have to say much after that. When I got there I was super happy to see Marie from Raising Great Men and Angie from Mbamoms with their gorgeous sons!
There was such a beautiful spread of food and the room was filled with toys and crafts for the kids to play with.
I then went around to the lovely sponsors which were plentiful! There was everything from babysitting services, to photography, to healthcare and there was even a clown handy!
I had a lot of great conversations, and was so excited because there were so many great resources right on my fingertips in Brooklyn! Since I live very far from downtown, I’ve never really explored all that is available for the kids. That will change this summer!
There were also a lot of great fitness resources for moms who cant find the time to workout. That sounds just a little familiar? 🙂
Brooklyn Baby Expo Seminars
Another cool part of the expo are the seminars! I missed a few but I literally squeezed my way into the most popular session of the day and that was by the baby guy. The baby guy is a guru on everything baby gear related. I was stunned at his insane depth of knowledge! So much so I could barely take notes! Every time someone asked him about something from baby carriers, to best twin strollers, to crib mattresses he rattled off the best of the best without hesitation!
One useful tip that he shared was very interesting on shared breast pumps. We as mommies always want to lend or borrow breast pumps to save on the cost, be careful! One brand Medela has been recalled several times, but in addition to that the motors end up moldy after extended use. So be careful if you have or decide to borrow a pump.
Next I went to the Technology Session, you guys know I couldn’t resist that one! The technology session had industry experts and we had a really great discussion on children and how technology has affected them in a totally different way than it was for us growing up. More on that to come!
The Brooklyn Baby Expo was fantastic, and although I reached there a halfway through the program, I really did enjoy myself. I can’t wait until next year’s event!
I also received a bunch of cool stuff from the event and I recap it all on this Vlog!:
