Home Friday Fitness Check-in Friday Fitness: Shifting My Fitness Focus

FridayFitnessCheckIn

What a week!

It’s been a crazy week–and before you say “as usual” I mean it was really crazy. I usually attend maybe around 2-3 events a week. This week had 6–and that was in 3 days.

But I LOVE it. I thrive on crazy. It just happens to be a place that I am very comfortable. That is the awesome part about doing something that you love completely from your toes to the tip of your head, the crazy is not so crazy (to you at least).

It’s Friday yall, it’s time to check in!

run report

As I inch closer and closer to Marathon Training I realize that I have to shift my mindset from “I hope I get my runs in this week” to “I’m going to get my runs in this week”. In preparation for the training I have made it a point to run at least 3 times a week which is not easy at all with my schedule. I have quickly realized that certain workouts that I love like Bodypump, spinning, and weight training will need to take a backseat until this marathon is over.

I will absolutely still cross train (mandatory) but I need to be flexible with scheduling classes depending on my schedule. I have heard so many different accounts about this marathon–mostly positive–but the one that scared me the most was the non training story I heard from a woman at one of my events. I have to make sure that if I have a crazy week I get my training runs in as first priority, everything else will be second.

This week in the midst of the crazy I would have run 3 times. 4 miles on Monday, 4 miles on Thursday and 5 on Friday (today). Next week I have more of the same planned with the hope of adding on 3-4 miles.

cross training

On Wednesday I was able to attend a rooftop yoga class and it was so good. Full details on that experience coming next week but let’s just say that my body needed yoga…bad.

I can’t believe it’s almost here! The BROOKLYN HALF is in 2 weeks!! Squee!!! I am so excited to run this race. I mean it’s my hometown so it’s extra special. I have a very fabulous outfit that I can’t wait to wear and I can’t wait to hang out in Coney Island with my family and friends afterwards.

Have you ever had to do a mental shift with your training? How was your food and exercise week this week?

I like where you head is and you need to keep it there. Marathon training absolutely demands you get your runs in girl!!! I know you will, even with (and maybe because of?) all the crazy! Embrace it.
I SO wish I was running that Brooklyn half with you!! I may need to make a trip to the city in late May to see/run with you. Hopefully you can squeeze me into your schedule 🙂

WOW I don’t know how you do it! I find that any sort of training is all in the mind I’m getting back in the running groove. Starting this weekend. Training for a 10k here in July!

I have to mentally shift my focus after this weekend. I will be going back to shorter distances for awhile and hopefully do another half before the season is over. You had a great week of training!

I hear ya! Every week is crazy. I wouldn’t have it any other way – with two kids, a blog, work, other stuff. Well YOU know!
My fitness was good! My food was ok. I’ve been low weight lately. I even had my doctor check my thyroid because I’m about 8-10 pounds lighter than I was last year. Everything checked out fine – it’s just that last year I was still under two years postpartum and apparently my body takes that much time to get back to what it always was before kids. Which is how it is again now.
That said, I have to be careful not to fill those extra calories with ice cream. Thinking.. avocado.

I definitely saw the change with the Husband on ‘trying’ to get his runs in to ‘needing’ to get his runs in. But I can tell it was really helpful for him. I know you are doing a walk/run program. Does it have specific mileage recommendations? Best of luck with your training!

I’ve been meaning to try running a marathon or even just a half marathon but for some reason something seems to always get in the way. Then again it could be my psyche getting scared of the challenge, not sure though. Great to see your progress.
