Reba McEntire Interview: On New Outnumber Hunger Campaign & New Album “Love Somebody”

reba interview

Last week I was so excited to be invited to a intimate lunch with country music legend Reba McEntire. The event was held at the Soho Houses in Chelsea. Reba is partnering with General Mills and Feeding America for the Outnumber Hunger Campaign which secure meals for people all over the U.S.

Before Reba arrived we were treated to lunch, there were two different kinds of Caesar salads (which I couldn’t touch because of my seafood allergy) but there was an amazing quinoa salad that I couldn’t get enough of! There was also avocado on a heavyweight multigrain toast that was so good, French fries and a grilled cheese that I didn’t end up eating because the avocado toast and quinoa salad did their job! It was a really delicious lunch.

Reba Arrives

I must admit, it was completely awesome being in a room with such a legendary artist. I have so much respect for her–first she is super talented, has a strong faith and most of all she is down to earth. She never once gave me the celebrity vibe and it felt like even for those few minutes we were all friends hanging out to chat about the Outnumber Hunger Campaign and her new album “Love Somebody”.

What is the outnumber hunger campaign?

Everyday people like you and me who use General Mills products (think Cheerios, Yoplait, Nature Valley and more) can secure five meals for your local food bank by entering a product code at OutnumberHunger.com!

General Mills is no stranger to donating food as they have donated 230 pounds of food in the last 30 years. I volunteered at a food pantry for 7+ years before I had my kids and they depend solely on donations. This is a great and very easy way to get involved and make an impact on your community.

In addition Reba talked about her first album release in 5 years called “Love Somebody“. She even mentioned that she recorded the album live with a band in Nashville–I had no idea artists were still doing that! That alone just raised my respect level of her a few levels! She will also be touring with fellow amazing country artists such as Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw to name a few.

I did see your photo of this on Facebook, but loved getting the backstory on your meeting of Reba and this awesome cause.

That is so awesome that they are doing that to get rid of hunger. No one should have to go hungry. I always feel so bad about the amount of wasted food in the US.

This sounds like a great campaign. Reba is a sweet person, too. I’m happy she’s working with general mills on this.

I don’t much about her but I have watched her popular TV show. I think the campaign is genius. Five meals?!?!? That’s what I’m talking about!

Kim April 16, 2015 - 1:16 pm

Yep — we use lots of General Mills products.
I have always liked Reba (I’m a huge country music fan) – now I like her even more!!

I’ve always thought Reba was a classy lady and this just proves it. I love this campaign and I’m an avid donor to our local food bank. It’s such a little thing but I know it makes a HUGE difference.

I love this so much. I squealed when I saw the photo of you and Reba on FB, but it was in passing and I didn’t get to really know what the event was. I really love her. Yes, we use General Mills – probably more than we even know here.

Nicole April 19, 2015 - 10:03 pm

Sounds like such a neat event! Mmm, I love avocado toast! I actually just had some earlier today 🙂

I know that cereals in general have a bad reputation in the health industry. But when companies like this do so much to help others, it really makes me appreciate the resources they have to help out. Thanks for getting the word out!
