Weekly Wednesday Workout: Plie (Sumo) Squats

I just adore the name of this exercise! Squats are really regular in my exercise routine because I love any exercise that lifts the booty! They are embedded in my Zumba routine, and I do them daily at the gym sometimes with weights, sometimes without. These are a bit different from regular squats because while they are still working the butt, the inner thighs (my arch nemesis) get worked too. Add the weight and you have a full body workout!

Did you see the variation she did at the end? That requires some serious balance and after completing the move your calves will most likely be on fire (along with everything else). The key in squats is to not let your knee extend pass your foot, and that applies for ALL squats. I love this exercise because it makes for lean legs, lean arms, toned back and killer calves.

Do you do Sumo Squats? Are squats a part of your regular routine?

I’m obsessed with booty-lifting/enlarging exercises. 🙂 And squats are always a biggie. I’ve done these before and can attest that they definitely work. I have the knees of an 80 year old, so I really have to watch my form or I will be out of the gym for 2 weeks in pain.

YES, my knee has been acting up recently too (ugh) so when I did these this morning I was SUPER careful not to jack it up anymore than it is.

I haven’t done sumo but I kill some squat on a regular. I have a love hate relationship with them. Squats are actually my least favorite track in PUMP. I’m glad it’s second to get it out of the way. Thank you for searching for quality videos to give us on a regular!

Squats are so fantastic, I don’t like the burn so much as I love the results 🙂

Ha I would love to but I a) don’t have the equipment at home and b) don’t have anyone to record me at the gym (that would be a dream!) Besides, these videos are nice and edited. 🙂

I love the simplicyt of the sumo squat, although I haven’t really done it in a while. I do squats in Zumba and dance class but I really want to incorporate that weight into it. Thanks for this tip becasue i think I can add thi into my gym workout day. The more interesting exercises I have the better.

Exactly! That’s why I do this weekly Wednesday workout because I am notorious for getting stuck in a routine.
