Last week I was invited by The Moms to attend a book launch event featuring Mayim Bialik’s new cookbook “Mayim’s Vegan Table” which features over 100 completely vegan recipes she created! The event was held at Cafe Blossom (see the irony?) in the village.
While we were there we got to taste some very yummy vegetarian appetizers. Every single thing I tried was delish ! I hadn’t a clue what was in it but it tasted good so that is all that matters! I don’t think I have ever tried vegan food before. I am now a fan!
After that we all sat down to have an informal Q&A with Mayim.
Mayim blogs for many sites and noticed a request and demand for her veganized recipes. Since she is a normal mom cook, she published her recipes not to be a celebrity chef, but to really show that a lot of normal recipes can be veganized and taste great too.
Being a full time working mom, where does she find the time?
Mayim cooks several meals on Sundays. She told us that not the planning every meal for every day type but she takes time to cook on Sundays. Since a lot of the vegan recipes call for the same ingredients she doesn’t have to go grocery shopping as much. She cooks things that she can freeze! (smart!)
What is Mayim’s favorite recipe in Mayim’s Vegan Table?
A few of her favorites include: Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Vegan Mac and Cheese , and Kale Chips that satisfies salty crunchy cravings.
Were Mayim brought up vegan?
She was not brought up vegan, however she ate no no sugary cereals, only ate granola, raw carrots, baked apples, and she grew up on meat and dairy. She became a vegetarian at 19 years old and had has transitioned into completely vegan ever since.
Do you get to have a normal routine with your kids? What are your hours on the Big Bang Theory?
School hours! She works 3 days a week 9-3, off weekends April to August off as well.
She also has tons of other jobs including but not limited to: Answering emails, running, writer Kveller.com, cleans her own house, online interviews, speaking engagements, stem education for young girls.
Does Mayim take yoga?
Mayim is not a yoga person “because it involves being still” (my kinda girl!)
Do you work out with your kids?
Takes walks with them, sometimes jogs with them too! (love!)
I was able to get a picture with Mayim, but I apologize for the INSANE close range, she was in a rush, and I really wanted a pic with one of my favorite girls on TV! (I apologize for any nose hair sightings)
Mayim’s Vegan Table is now available in stores and online. I can’t wait to try the recipes!
While she’s an actress with a PhD in neuroscience, at the end of the day Mayim Bialik is a mom, one who knows what it’s like to be a busy parent with little time to spend in the kitchen. She shares the concerns of parents everywhere: when it comes to nutrition and feeding your family, you want healthy meals, but also food that everyone—kids and parents—can enjoy, and a balanced lifestyle that’s inexpensive and fuss-free. Not only does Mayim’s Vegan Table share more than 100 easy plant-based recipes for dishes that are as good to eat as they are good for you, but Mayim has also teamed up with pediatrician Jay Gordon to offer:
- Basic nutritional information about a plant-based diet
- The real deal on raising kids on a plant-based diet (myths and misperceptions, debunked)
- Vegan family essentials (including a list of what to always keep in the pantry)
