Ready For Princess Half Marathon Race Weekend! (Sort Of)

by Nellie

Here we are, back again.PHM16_runDisneyLogo

I’m back to run the Princess Half Marathon, the race that inspired me to run past my all time distance of 5k. The Princess Half Marathon will always have a special significance to me…it started my running journey. When I first thought about running this race, I was so scared. Like shaking in my boots terrified.

Now, more than a year and a half later, I have run 8 half marathons and one full marathon. Needless to say, this race is special to me. It also helps that it takes place in the Happiest place in the world which happens to be where my boyfriend of nine years asked me to be his wife. So yes. There are ALL KINDS of emotion wrapped up in this race. The room price may be high, the flights may be pricey, the race entry fees astronomical, but when my emotions are involved? Alllllll bets are off.

I fly out to Orlando, solo, today which is a LOT better than last year. I got to the expo with 2 hours left before it closed while simultaneously managing a flood situation in my home caused by a water tank that burst minutes after we got on the plane. This year I get to explore the expo, like REALLY explore which means that I might come home with no money. This is a real possibility.

I’m ok with this.

You may remember I got the Minnie’s last year, and they served me well. I ran several races in them this year and I think I might have worn them all the way out. Which is super convenient because there are new New Balance styles that I want this year especially these Ariels. They are just so cute!

I actually paid for a jacket this year with my registration because last year I was so sad with envy and I wanted one so bad! It will be MINE this year!

Plus I want all kind of silly things like cups, some things for the kids, but mostly me. #NoShame

Final Training Report

I feel quite confident about my training. My strong leg project has been going pretty well–building on weights and doing lots of cross training in addition to logging miles on the treadmill.

Unfortunately I was sidelined this entire week with an upper respiratory infection. Monday all day I felt crazy crappy and like I was going to cough up a lung. I knew I had a race in 6 days so I booked a same day appointment and the doc gave me some (really strong) antibiotics. I even took off Tuesday as a sick day (which I NEVER do), and by yesterday I was feeling a bit better. The cough is still there but the pain has disappeared.

Plan for the race

It is going to be a bit on the hot side (60 degrees) at the start of BOTH the 10k on Saturday and the Half on Sunday. Because of my condition I plan on taking it way easy because I need to be in tip top shape for my first NYC half in a month. This is a super fun race so I will be stopping to take pics with characters and giving my lungs a break once in a while. I’ll cross the finish line, no PRs, but I will finish, likely with a big smile like this one. 🙂

runDisney Princess Half Marathon 2015 Recap-1--2

You guys already know that this running thing is all about the fun for me so getting to run in my favorite place in the world is pretty much the best thing EVER. I was a bit of an epic fail in the first week of my challenge but I will be right back on it this weekend!

Aw, hope you are feeling better and wish you a ton of luck for this weekend’s race now. Seriously, I was a runner this would be the race I would want to do, as I think you know just how much I love Disney and the princesses, too 🙂

The only thing I ever race to is the fridge. Clearly I am doing it wrong.

Aww… the happiest place on earth. In so many ways.
When I was there earlier this month, I told all the princesses that you were coming, and that you were amazing.

I’m so sorry you were sick! I have been battling a cold as well and it is noooo fun! I’ve never been really sick right before a big race or event although I was really sick with a cold on a ski trip for my bday once and that was no fun at all. Best of luck with your race!!!

I’m still in love with your Belle outfit from last year & wish I hadn’t missed you running it this year. Hopefully your illness didn’t slow you down too much.
