I have gathered some of my iconic free and affordable kid friendly attractions in NYC so that you can get some fun in the city while not breaking the budget.

Central Park: No trip to New York is complete without a visit to this 843-acre park in Manhattan. There is a multitude of things to entertain tourists of all ages. Specific to children, free activities include 19 Adventure Playgrounds situated throughout the park. Check out Diana Ross Playground at 81st Street. Families can enjoy a free day of entertainment wandering Central Park, with its bridges, ponds and meandering paths. There are always buskers, boat racers and musicians showcasing their talents. Bring a picnic and get a map online, or buy one for $2 at the park.

Prospect Park: This park is located in the heart of Brooklyn and is the largest park in the borough. It can be easily accessed by subway from NYC. There are plenty of activities to enjoy including a lake and a watercourse. If you are a runner, the loop is just over 3 miles and is very hilly (so if you like a challenge, this one is for you!). Plus the Prospect Park Zoo and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is right across the street from the park and super affordable.
