Friday Fitness Check-in: Ket-tle bells, Ket-tle bells, Ket-tle All The Way!

I had another solid week of workouts this week. I have been pushing harder to reach my minimum 400 calories burned. This gets increasingly harder with the more pounds I drop. It’s hard but it is also really good motivation to keep going even when I’m exhausted. A really good calorie burner? Squats!

I will be working out for a total of 6 times this week, only because I had a total unplanned workout on Sunday when I blew the dust off my “Hip Hop Experience” game for my Xbox Kinect. This game is no joke! Once you get into it, you will break a serious sweat!

Other than that I added a ton of kettle bells to my workouts this week. I love them! There were lots of kettlebellI swings,  squats, snatches, sit-ups, shoulder presses, you name it. We had a love affair this week! I even created a new Pin board dedicated to kettle bells that is full of amazing workout ideas.

For the first time in a long time I don’t feel overly tired or sore after 5 straight workout days. I am taking a mandatory rest day today (Not that I want to) because I need fresh legs to teach Zumba in the morning!

Food was great this week. I am sticking to my routine, I did get some advice that I may be eating too little. Which is probably very true.

The weekends tend to be a slippery slope for me. If we order food, it’s usually not very healthy and I will end up doing the same thing the next day until I cook on Sunday. I have been overly aware of this and in an effort not to spoil the disciplined week I have been eating insanely low calories on Saturday and Sunday. This is clearly not a good idea because I do not want to slow down my metabolism just as its finally started to work for me! I’m working it out.

I also had my first cheat meal in weeks yesterday. I had 2 tacos and a side chips from Baja Fresh. It was good but I felt yucky afterwards. I managed to stay inside of my calories though thanks to Zumba and and extra 20 mins of elliptical action.

The scale was weird with me this week! One day up dramatically one day down. I think it might have  to do with the fact that I am now inhaling 80oz of water as a part of the #newbodymakeover,  or my affair with kettle bells, or my AF that is en route. Not sure but when it was all said and done I was up 1lb. I am quite OK with this because I am still logging every bite,  busting my tail in the gym, and I haven’t deviated from the plan in the least.

Do you workout with kettle bells? How was your fitness/eating week?

  1. That was some serious calories for that hip hop dance party! Wow!
Yes, I love kettle bells and haven’t used them in a while. It’s funny, I saw some at Target yesterday and almost bought a couple and then I remembered that I’m not allowed to shop for ME!
Keep up the good work and don’t let the scale get inside your head. You’re doing great so just stay the course.

    • ha, isn’t it so funny how we magically end up with stuff for ourselves while christmas shopping? I was in Target today and I walked out with a lipstick. I couldn’t help myself!

  2. Sounds like a great week and do be too hard on yourself for a cheat meal every now abad again, because you are doing great and deserve it once in awhile. Have a wonderful weekend now, Nellie!! :)

  4. Well you’re looking great! I love the suit too! I need to really get back into doing my squats! My problem area is my legs (these thighs) to be more specific. Adding kettle bells to your squat routine sounds like a great way to intensify them. I need an Xbox or Wii so I can join the dance fun!

  5. You look wonderful – but beyond that, you’ve got a wonderful attitude. Given all the reasons a woman can gain a pound, that scale number shouldn’t matter at all when you’re doing all the hard work you’re doing & staying on track! Good for you!

  6. Way to hit the gym this week! Good for you! I have been taking it slow this week because I’ve been injured but I still managed to get in some workouts! I love that suit you are wearing. So amazing!

  9. Kettle bells! Not here. I do love your outfit above. Holy cow is it awesome.
I had a terrible eating week but I weighed myself yesterday and I was down two pounds. No idea why. Probably just lots of factors.
    Have a great weekend!!

  10. Nellie, I have to say that you look absolutely fabulous in all of your outfits. I especially like your workout outfit :) This week for me has been weird. I told hubby once that I wanted another apple pie and every time he stops at the store to pick up a few things, he bought be back another one! He says that he wanted to make sure his prego wife had everything she wanted. So I had to tell him no more apple pie! LOL. The funny thing is, I’m eating for me, JR (who still nurses regularly) and this tiny baby so let’s just say I’m always hungry. Haha!

    • Thanks Brittnei! :) Your hubby is so sweet for catering to your wants :) aww. Since you are still nursing you are going to need a lot of calories but you already know that!

  11. Okay, so I remember reading your Fitness Friday posts months ago, and…you’re smokin’! I can really see the difference in your body shape – especially your legs. Clearly you’re doing things right. Keep it up!

  13. I do have one kettle bell in my home gym but I don’t use it nearly enough. You’re making me want to dust it off though.

You are looking super duper slim!

  14. I had an unfortunate kettle bell incident. Lead to the demise of my husband’s iPhone 3, at the time. But, since time has passed, I think he’ll trust me again, to bring them from the garage. I miss them. BTW – you are looking fierce, lady!
