Aqua Zumba

Aqua Zumba Review

aqua zumba review

My girl Kia and I are huge Urban Girl Squad fans. The UGS brings together professional women in their 20s and 30s for fun events that range from wine tasting parties, to uh–adult education parties, to boxing, running, you name it! You may remember the fun networking event that I attended last year.

She got us tickets to Aqua Zumba, and I was excited *because it was Zumba*,  and I really like the pool. I don’t swim. At all. But being in the water is fun!

We grabbed dinner, then headed over to the gym. When we arrived we met Edmee, our instructor. She gave us a big warm smile and welcomed us. Zumba pro skills were definitely present here. I introduced myself, and it turns out we have my Zumba mentor in common. Loved that.

Kia and I changed into our swimsuits and I gotta admit, I want to look better in it, but that is what all the hard work is for right?

We all got in the pool and I was a little nervous because I didn’t want to be in the deep end, you know being that I can’t swim and all.

We were told to get in the water up to our chest. She was directly in front of us and she had the song I currently use in my Zumba class–Wake Me Up by Avicii

After that I knew I would be in good hands.

The movements were very big and very intentional. It’s a ton of upper body but the lower half gets work too. I only wish I had swim shoes on to get a better grip of the floor (I was slipping a lot!)

We went through 7 songs, some high intensity and some low. It was over before we knew it and we cooled down. It was my second workout of the day (earlier I did boxing) but I still felt the satisfaction of a good workout. It wasn’t until much later on that I realized I could have brought my polar in the water with me! Oh well. I was able to catch my girl Edmee for a pic :)

This was another fantastic event held by the Urban Girl Squad. We even got a free class as a gift! I can’t wait to go back.

Are you a good swimmer? Have you ever taken Aqua Zumba? Pool or Beach?

  1. I’ll say it again – you city girls have all the fun!! What a great event. I have never taken a pool class but I do enjoy swimming laps. There’s something about it that is very relaxing. Unfortunately, it’s usually last on my list after biking and running so I don’t do it often unless I have a TRI coming up!

    • The water is super relaxing — your biking and running take all the exercise precedence, especially for your world duathalon!! :)

  2. I’ve not tried aqua Zumba. I’ve never taken any type of water class so I’m not sure how I’d like it.

I took swim lessons for five years as a kid so I’ma decent swimmer. Although I wouldn’t’t say I’m great at it.

  7. Aqua Zumba!? I know that must have been fun. Given that I haven’t worn a bathing suit in public in 5+ years…I won’t be going anytime soon, but I will add it to my 2014 #fitforcali bucket list! lol

    • Girl I had no clue how freaking hard that would be! I did think about it until I was actually IN the suit then I was like oh no. this is NOT working. it was like a bucket of ice cold water was thrown on me. ugh.

  8. So many opportunities for you. Such a blessing when it comes to variety. That is the one thing I envy about living in the big city. Now this one in particular I would only be able to take advantage of on a Friday morning (before the hair salon :) ) Looks like fun though, especially for you. You should take swim lessons with the boys. I bet that would be fun.

  14. I bet that was quite the workout. The most I ever do is run in the water, and it has to be really hot outside for me to do that. I used to do it all the time during xc season in college (well once a week) and I hated it. But it was also how I got to meet my husband!

  18. OMG! That sounds like a fun. I would love to do this. I need to see if my only friend in PA would be down for something like this. I doubt I would want to go by my lonesome.
