2013 Year In Review

Seems like every year we  talk about how fast time has gone by,  and we look forward with great anticipation for the new year. Today I wanted to do something a little different. I am going to recap the highlights of 2013 today, not every moment was perfect–but it was a really amazing year for me and today I share it with you.

JANUARY : In January I taught my first Zumba class. I was so incredibly nervous, I totally forgot steps, at times I could barely hear the music because my heart was beating so loudly in my ears. At the end, I had never been happier. I wanted to do this forever. My friends and family came from near and far to support me and it truly was an unforgettable experience. IMG_1149 FEBRUARY: I entered the dirty thirty club with a loud thump as I got my tail kicked on my birthday. I had accomplished a lot of my before 30 bucket list too. I also received an amazing gift for my birthday that came just in time for my party. MARCH: My oldest son turned four and we had a low key birthday party for him at his former daycare.  This was also the month that I decided to share my fitness story with everyone that included personal details of what hindered my weight loss efforts for so long. IMG_1293 APRIL: In April, I started getting invitations to lots of fun blog events including one of my most favorite events Getting Gorgeous. I did one of the weirdest but most fun races by running a 5k on an airport runway and I started trying HIIT workouts for the first time!

MAY: In May I had the most wonderful opportunity to meet with other beautiful mothers of color at the Essence Mommy Meet Up.  Just being in a room with so many women that had the same struggles as myself made me feel so alive and ready to conquer the world! Later on that month I was able to jump down to North Carolina for Bloggy Boot camp where I got to hang out with Joi, The Dose Girls, Reese, Michelle and so many more phenomenal bloggers. The knowledge I learned there has since been unmatched. I also got the invitation to attend the Fitness Magazine Blogger Meet and Tweet which was just fantastic and made me realize that this little blog that I have that started out as a little venting space actually means something on these interwebs. JUNE: If you thought May was bananas… June was even crazier. I attended my first blogging while brown conference that exposed me to so many awesome bloggers of color! I learned so much at that conference and it helped that I was able to get on a train and go home every day. June was also the first time I was able to go to the west coast for Fitbloggin 13! I taught a Zumba song in front of hundreds. I cried. I ate. I danced all night long with these girls. I had the best  roomie ever, (who has now become my roomie for life) and most of all I got some of the Fitbloggin magic that keeps me going till next year.

JULY: In July I ran my first ever color run. It was the coolest yet the hottest race I have ever ran. It was my first themed 5k and I know I am such a addict now! I also started the Jamie Eason program which really opened my eyes to the world of strength training. I tried so many new machines and I really got super comfortable with weight lifting. I also managed to interview Ryan Reynolds who is just the sweetest guy.

AUGUST : I got my second Zumba certification and was rejuvenated as a Zumba instructor. I also got to interview WWE superstars and the incredibly sweet Terry Crews.

SEPTEMBER: While most kids were going back to school,  my son was delayed by email week due to a heavily crowded NYC school system. After a thorough search we finally found the most perfect preschool for him. Everything really does happen for a reason!

OCTOBER: I started October in the great city of Atlanta for the Blogalicious conference. This was another highlight for me because I had such an amazing time. It was very well executed and I really spent time with some of my favorite girls on the planet. Lots of laughs and inspiration came from that conference including the spark that helped me to lose more than 10 pounds in under 3 months. IMG_7916 NOVEMBER: I was able to jump down to Florida for a wedding weekend that I will never forget. It was 27 hours of awesome and I simply can’t wait to do it again! I also got to workout with Olympians and hang out with some of my favorite girlfriends that happen to be fellow bloggers.

DECEMBER: I witnessed the world’s most Gifted wrappers for the first time and it was a really great time! I also was sugar attacked on a daily basis at the job but I managed to keep it all under control and lose weight during  all the crazy. Since the above mentioned spark in November, I have managed to lose just a little over 10 pounds and counting. :) photo (26) Reliving all of this has been so awesome. If you told me last year that I would have been doing all of this,  I’d be in awe. I am so excited for 2014…I know I will finally be at my goal weight, and so many fun things are on deck for the new year!

Have you recapped all of your blessing this year? What are you looking forward to the most in the new year?
