Essence 2015 Upfront – For The Love of Black Women
It’s no secret that Essence Magazine is one of my all time favorite magazines. It is hands down the best magazine for African American women, on every page there are uplifting messages, images and information that apply to brown girls in the most wonderful of ways.
Last week Essence held their annual preview event of what is coming for the magazine in 2015. I was excited to hear because honestly they had such a great 2014. I mean to have Prince headlining the Essence fest in New Orleans, to fun local events like the Patene Hair Event and the Street Style Block Party during New York Fashion week. How could they possibly top this year?
We got the opportunity to have a preview of all the new (and old) features that would be happening in 2015. This included a new MommyHub feature dealing specifically with parenting issues as well as new beauty and fashion segments highlighting the trends and keeping us all up to date on the latest!
My favorite part of the even was when they introduced a former male bachelor that met his wife through Essence and is now living happily ever after. How cute are they?!
In addition to all of the fun stuff, Essence will also be keeping us up to date on all the important social issues happening on the ground. We were treated to a moving performance by St. Louis rapper Tef Poe who has been on the ground in Missouri since the Mike Brown shooting.
The beautiful Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx is on the cover of the this month’s Essence and she was also at the preview. She was asked if she got any advice from Jamie and she said that he told her to “always be herself” so cute!
Last but not least we got treated to a performance by Naughty By Nature! My inner 90s kid went absolutely bananas. Yes I sang every word, yes I had a moment. For as long as I have loved their music I have never seen them live so that was an amazing treat to close the show!
The after party was where I had the most fun because some of my absolute favorite girls were present and there was amazing food, and even better music. It was nice to be out late on a school night having a really good time! There were endless laughs and maybe even some plans made to attend Essence fest this year?? We shall see!
