I have always been a far away fan of yoga. You know, one who admires those who do yoga with grace and fold their bodies into amazing and beautiful bendy ways. There are so many beautiful yogis that I know through the blogosphere and in real life. I usually admire and applaud from afar because, well, I am about as flexible as a curtain rod.
Years ago, I went through a pretty intense hot yoga phase. It was life changing. I was doing hot yoga maybe 3-4 times a week (at $5 per class, it was easy on the pockets). I got bendy, I connected with myself, I stopped all the madness and felt my energy. Yoga is so incredibly powerful like that.
On Tuesday night I was invited to attended a Yoga class in one of my favorite places, Brooklyn Bridge Park to check out the new line of Miz Mooz Shoes. To my surprise (and delight), the class would be held with an incredible back drop of the NYC Skyline, the Brooklyn Bridge and the beautiful body of water just steps away. We got to check out some of the shoes for the fall/winter line before we got our OM on.
I was a bit nervous to take the class. It had been
years a really long time since I have taken a legitimate yoga class. Again, I am very comfortable in my far away admiration. Getting into the class groove wasn’t hard, my body quickly remembered the movements, and I actually recognized most of the terms.
My body wasn’t very responsive however, all the running leads to pretty tight muscles…everywhere. It was a nice change to pay some serious attention to opening up my hips and my body in the most delicious of ways. I couldn’t do everything–almost every move was modified, but I felt at home when I got into my favorite position–the warrior lunge. In that position I feel so strong, so invincible, so powerful.
I have never done an outdoor yoga class before. Being with nature, feeling the damp grass between my fingers, being surrounded by the tallest trees and the sea was extremely calming. As you guys know, my life is pretty much gogogogo so to stop and literally smell the roses, was a fantastic break.
The amazing folks from Miz Mooz Shoes were awesome enough to provide us with with water, snacks, a pretty cool yoga mat and more. I am so grateful for the experience, I needed the pause.
Check out all the cute new styles!
