Finding Balance When There Is So Much To Do!

I am a baker.

By evening. However, by day I am still a full time account manager. And a mommy. And a wife. And a friend. And… Well you get the picture.

It sounds weird to call myself a baker, I mean a few months ago I didn’t even think I could come up with this phantom side hustle, now I’m *so* passionate about it, it’s amazing.

I suppose what surprised me the most is the ease of it all. When I get an order I am brainstorming what the final presentation will be. I know it will taste good but the look is what interests me the most.

My main goal is…how can I make it pretty?

Being an entrepreneur has been fun so far, we have steady orders coming in every week and we are stashing all incoming funds away.

However, now that I see where this can go, I have so many ideas and plans for the business…the thing about a side hustle is that you have to dedicate all of your non work time to it.

How do I do that?

I mean, I don’t need to tell you how busy I am, we are all super busy in life, I guess I’m trying to find a balance between pursuing my dreams while working full time.

Would I want to work in a bake shop full time? No. I would *love* to open several shops around Brooklyn and hire qualified folks to execute my dream.

The hard part about the said pursuit of happiness is that sometimes it seems as if there is not enough time in the day.

I have three things (non family related) that occupy my mind daily:

  • My day job (advancement, certifications)
  • My cupcake business (growth, expansion)
  • My blog (growth, expansion, building community)

I feel as if I am being pulled in three directions. Take this week for example: I baked 8 dozen cupcakes between Sunday and Wednesday…it was a very hectic work week as we had a new product launch, as a result I haven’t done the work I wanted to on the blog.

Balance, you are an elusive *@&^ sometimes!

While I look for this elusive balance, I will be blogging through it all, and when I find it you will all know about it! ha.

Any tips for finding balance when you are pulled in so many different directions?

  3. Wow – girl your cupcakes have me drooling. Funny, I have a little side hustle idea (it's just a twinkle right now) that is very similar to yours! I applaud you for taking on so much, the days are too short to get everything done and boy do I know how you feel. It seems like once the little lady and I get home from work/school it's time to go to bed! I think organization and passion is the key – when you are passionate about something, it finds a way to be in your life some way, some how. Please keep us posted on your progress!

  4. For me, finding balance when I'm going crazy usually means I'm trying to do too much. I need to let something go. Maybe it's something small that I'm not even realizing is taking up precious time, like a facebook game. Just finding a little down time helps my mental health.

Good luck. Your cupcakes look amazing! Stopping by from SITS.

Balance is usually hard to find while trying to do everything that want. All I can say is pace yourself, and try not to burn yourself out. If it's something like Miss Robin said about cutting out one thing (like FB game) then that would free you up. At the end of the day, mental health is what's important.

    Your cupcakes look wonderful!

  8. I have NO tips, which is why I usually don't allow my plate to get too full. There are some people that are made to handle it and thrive from it. I think with time, I'll get to your level. My only tiny tip that I do to keep organized and on task is by writing everything down and checking things off when I finish them….along with putting them in my phone calendar with an alarm.

Now…..those cupcakes?!? Can I put in an order from Texas? (I wish I was kidding, but I'm so serious.) Those cupcakes look so amazingly delicious!!!! You need to get on Cupcake Wars. :-) This is an inspiration and is further inspiring me to find my and work hard on my dream.

  21. I love that term “side hustle” – and that’s exactly it! I think we all have something going on on the side and it is so hard to juggle everything. I think it helps to find your passion and then it makes it all seem a little easier. The cupcakes look awesome btw. Visiting from SITS – congrats on your day!

This post makes me feel a lot better about myself because I need near-constant reminding that I AM NOT ALONE when it comes to feeling overwhelmed. I just journaled about this last night: as long as I am taking care of all the things on my “need to do” list, then I am just going to have accept that my “want to do” list may not get all of the attention that I would prefer because I must prioritize.

  33. Those cupcakes are real lookers – and it sounds like you already know how to balance! Get in some serious relaxation time (days off, nights off, vacations) as often as you can – that tends to help with overall productivity and perspective.
