The One Where I Met Ryan Reynolds & Watched Snails Race
I have lived in New York City for all my life and I have always watched the Today Show on my couch. So when I got the opportunity to not only attend a live taping but hang out in the press pen, I was more than happy to get up at 5am and make it happen!
The Today Show was doing an awesome splash promotion of the movie Turbo. If you haven’t heard about Turbo the movie you will!
TURBO – July 17 in 3D
From the makers of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, TURBO is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.
Starring the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Ken Jeong, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson
When I arrived I was in awe of the set that had been created. It was a snail race!
So when I initially heard about the event I actually thought that real snails would be climbing up a wall–racing. I didn’t ask any questions, I just agreed and prayed for the little buggers not to go splat on national television.
To my relief there were snail props. Whew!
The Turbo Challenge:
Members of the Today show including Savannah and Matt Lauer and *ahem* Ryan Reynolds would be playing skee ball and the higher the score the faster the wall snails would go.
We had the best view, right behind the game! We were also on camera a few times. By the 3rd time I had perfected my camera face. (This may or may not have included pursed lips).
I was “in the pit” with a lot of fun mommy bloggers and I was even provided refreshments, which was desperately needed at 6:50 in the morning.
Oh, hello there Ryan
Finally Ryan came out and this man is nothing short of gorgeous in person! He came out said hi to us immediately and asked if we were the bloggers, everyone else replied yes, I think I mumbled something remarkably close to really good gibberish. But I did have my photography wits about me to get some really awesome shots.
Finally it was time for the race! Turbo aka Ryan Reynolds won, of course and Matt was a little miffed that he lost. It was all quite adorable. See the coverage of the race I recorded here:
One in one with Ryan Reynolds
As soon as that was complete we were whisked away to a wich craft that had been reserved for us in Rockefeller Center. Ryan came by almost immediately and sat right in front of us for a quick q&a.
See the fun interview here, pardon my constant giggling but the man is so darn charming!
He talked about Turbo and how much fun he had playing the character, some more personal details about himself.
Turbo looks like its really going to be an awesome movie filled with really great messages! I can’t wait to take my boy to see it! Meeting Ryan (yes, we are *totally* on a first name basis) has honestly made me want to see the film even more!
Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post I was just invited as media for coverage of the event All opinions of Ryan are my own.
