My Open Letter To Sleep

Dear Sleep,

I miss you.
So so so so so so so so much.
The toddler and the baby are holding you hostage and they are not taking any negotiations.
Please come back to me.
I need you.
Remember when I was young and I used to have you for 8, 9, 10 hours a day? When things were good between us?
However, lately I have only been getting around 3 hours of you to spend time with and even that is sort of spotty and never all at once.

I don’t think these children understand how much I need you. I need you to workout. I need you in order to have clear, intelligent conversations at work. Heck, I even need you to not ugly sleep on the train anymore. Which, by the way, can’t get anymore gross and embarrassing!

We were friends, please come back.
Because of your absence it is taking every single thing inside of me not to scream and go postal on anyone without small children claiming how “tired” they are.  Tired is when the toddler and baby team up against mommy and daddy about 10 minutes after we have fallen asleep. Tired is finally getting the baby to sleep and not even 5 minutes later hearing the wail of the toddler demanding comfort.
Please –I need you so I can be nice to people.
When I get a meeting request at work I get nervous, because THAT is when you want to show up. I have 60 minutes that I need to be clear, focused and alert. But usually you show up and I can barely keep my eyes open.
Why are you so cruel?
Sleep. We are in this together. The more of you I get, the better I am. Let’s work together and not let the toddler and the baby win. They are *not* the boss of us.
Love you forever,

  12. That was sad. I know how it feels waking up the next morning and you have a long list of errands to do but you can't seem to find your energy because you lack sleep the night before. A boring book and a warm milk might help. Hope you feel better soon.
