Bye Bye Baby Weight: Three Moments That Almost Made Me Give Up.

I had three moments in the past three days that almost made me pack up my fitness goals, throw them in a crate, seal it tight and pack em away for good.

Moment #1
I’ve been eating better, like wayyy better, taking my lunch to work, cutting back on the crazy carb eating times, exercising and strength training like a woman on a mission…and the scale said nope. +2 for you!
Say what?
Stunned was not even the word.
Moment #2
A young able bodied woman offered her seat to me on the crowded train with a concerned face. At first I gave her a smile and a confused no thank you. But then I realized when I looked at my reflection that she probably thought I was a couple of months pregnant. *deep sigh* I appreciate the gesture, after all I could never get a seat when I was actually pregnant. However, my heart and ego took a black eye on that one.
Moment #3
My favorite work pants, that fit me so easily last week…could barely close today. I mean zipper half way up … *screeching halt* wait, what? Am I regressing here? Its so crazy because I am working out harder, more intentionally, watching my food intake and denying myself all the good stuff. Yet…my pants are acting silly!
That’s the tricky part about this weight loss life…you do so well, you try so hard, yet…its up to your body to drop the weight. You can only continue to try your best.
Seeing the +2 made me want activate the junk food monster in my head that I shut down so many months ago. It made me want to give up really, I mean why am I working so hard to no avail? Crazy thoughts started seeping in like maybe this is the weight I’m supposed to be, maybe the size I want to be is all a bunch of pipe dreams. Maybe I should cancel my gym membership and just keep it moving.
Then I remembered how I felt after each workout this week, strong, amazing and accomplished. I remembered how proud I am of myself every Wednesday when I wake up at 4:50 am to go to my favorite and toughest class of the week. (I remember when I lost the weight last time, there were lots of disappointments and things that would have stopped me, but I pushed and pushed.) I remember my husband randomly telling me on Wednesday I was getting slimmer, now I can’t see it, but the fact that he could? Made my day.

I also read this article: Why Giving Up Is Not An Option + 7 Steps To Take the Pressure Off  which gives 7 steps and reasons never to give up on ANY goal, whether its health related or not. I think I need to pin this one to my vision board. Definitely one to bookmark!

Moments can throw us all for a loop, its up to us to decide to brush it off or let it live with us. The thing about moments is that they are just that, moments. They happen then they are gone making room for new ones. I suppose we can take the moments and dwell on them, or look at them as a part of the story. I choose to use them as a part of the story.

  1. I haven't been able to really get into my workout. My knee has been swollen for a little over a month. The good moment is that I started physical therapy so I am looking forward to a full recovery. In the meantime, I will attend a Yoga class at least once a week to help strengthen my hip. I learned that my hip and lack of arch is the reason for the knee pain. I am glad that you are not giving up and using your moments to add to the story rather than be the story. Happy Fitness!

Oh my gosh, I could have written this EXACT post. It is completely my life the past couple of weeks. The scale is moving the wrong way and my belly looks like I did at 20 weeks and yet I'm working out more than I have since Stella was born. So frustrating. Thanks for the reminder that it's just part of the story…

  3. We all have set backs! Just get back up and keep moving, sometimes those moments are necessary to get back on track.
