I had several epiphanies during the monster snowstorms of 2013/2014.
Apart from grunting and cursing this crazy weather, I realized a couple of things.
a. I really don’t like snow more than a dusting.
b. I need to be better about exposing my kids to this amazing city.
As a result, I have decided to stop teaching Zumba for the entire summer. As a matter of fact I will stop teaching memorial day weekend and return in late September.
I will miss Zumba SO MUCH but I know this is absolutely the right decision for me and the family. Remember since this is a volunteer position, I wouldn’t be losing any cash but what I am losing is seeing my amazing, dedicated women every single Saturday. I will miss choreographing new songs every week (although I won’t be surprised if I started the new class with a completely different new set of songs) and I will miss the satisfaction of teaching such a great class.
The one thing that being locked in the house with zero degree weather and mounds and mounds of snow taught me is that I really didn’t take advantage of the warm weather last year. I was happy with some comfortable air conditioning and cooking on the grill every night. This year things will change, things MUST change.
My city, like every urban city is filled to the brim with things to do with children every weekend. Since I will be traveling twice this summer for BlogHer & Fitbloggin’ I am determined to spend the remaining weekends entertaining the children as best as I can even if its just a Saturday in the park.
This is a conscious decision to put family first, since I am a full time working mom I don’t get to spend the amount of time that I want with the kids–and now that they are older (2 & 5) and
kinda easier to manage, I really want to spend the summer hot days entertaining them and hopefully making it a summer that they won’t forget.
This was a tough decision but it feels so right. With the big guy going off to kindergarten this Fall, I am challenging myself to really take a bite out of the big apple and enjoy all the amazing deals! We have been to a few museums but I want to hit them ALL this summer, kiddie pools, Coney Island, aquariums, botanic gardens, zoos, festivals, parks–the possibilities are endless and I need ALL of my weekend to enjoy every minute of these boys. Not mention we will end our amazing summer with a trip to Universal Studios with a bunch of blogger friends and their kids!!
So, Adios Zumba, I will see you in the fall.
p.s. for those folks coming to A Healthy U Conference tomorrow, I will be teaching and it will be quite the SHOW!
Have you sacrificed something you love to make someone you love happy?
