HIIT Results Week One

 

When I started the HIIT method of working out just one week ago, I really thought it was going to be a breeze, I mean how much more challenging could this Really be? I had heard and seen so many great HIIT results, I thought I’d give it a real try.

I go hard all the time so this wouldn’t make much of a difference right?

Wrong.

Without further adieu here are my HIIT results after the first week:

I did a total of three HIIT workouts:

  • Monday: treadmill 5 min warm up then alternating between 30 second jogs and 30 second sprinting like hell duration: 40 minutes
  • Wednesday: Same duration 30 minutes
  • Friday: elliptical alternating between slower climbs the turning the resistance up and going really fast.

Analysis

Monday’s workout was SO hard, by the time I was 15 minutes in I was exhausted but I pushed through, the short intervals made it all go by really fast!

Wednesday was way harder, maybe because it was after a tough spin class the day before or maybe it was the fact that it was my 3rd straight hard workout–it was much harder to execute. I struggled, especially through the middle parts. I kept this one at 30 minutes it was honestly all I had.

Elliptical: this was actually quite hilarious! I am not sure how anyone can make HIIT look good on an elliptical. One second you are cruising with everyone else the next you are huffing and puffing going ALL out and just looking cray cray. I mean the whole dang machine was shaking! It was hysterical actually. I don’t even want to know what the ladies next to me thought.

Since I am following the self Drop 10 Challenge, I also did a spin class on Tuesday and my usual Zumba on Saturday.

The thing that was different about the elliptical and HIIT is that it took a way longer time for my heart rate to make its way down to 60% max. Instead, I’d have to have longer rest intervals to bring my heart rate down, this did not happen on the treadmill.

Feeling stronger

On Monday when I got on the treadmill the max I ran was a solid 6.5 mph max speed and by Wednesday I was running 7.2 max speed…not bad.

Weight loss

I ended up losing a solid 2.0 pounds last week, so a combination of good eating and HIIT seems to be working. These HIIT results are certainly encouraging so I will be riding this one till the wheels fall off!

I hope these results are consistent!

  1. Go Nellie! Congrats on the loss! I am going to start doing the HIIT workouts next week! This week, I’m taking a break from the gym altogether and hopefully next week I’ll be shocking my body back into working again and see some great results!       The elliptical is nice and easy on the joints, it gives you a great workout. I like outdoorsy workouts too ;)

  3. Great job!! I’ll have to try that on my elliptical…never done that!! You’re inspiring me to try it! I do intervals sometimes when running and I like that, especially the short ones! Usually for me my workout of choice is running. So great to meet you in person last night!!

  4. I haven’t thought about it on the Elliptical but you’ve humored me! Congratulations on the loss..that is surely motivation and a reason whyilove the Tabata boot camp that utilizes HIUT. Have fun continuing!

    I’ve got fun fun fun lined up this week, teaching my local Sorors BODYCOMBAT and playing in a company BBall game…SWOON…or maybe not…BBall is a whole other cardio train wreck, lol!

  5. The elliptical is never my machine of choice!!
    Way to go on the HIIT – that’s a big jump from Monday’s max time to Wednesday – no wonder 30 minutes was “all” you did Wednesday!! Awesome!!
    Sadly, no big workout goals this week – but definitely next week!

  7. Congrats on 2 lbs! Whoot!

    I love HIIT and Zumba does have that incorporated although not nearly as intense as the tread. I’ve used the elyptical at the gym for HIIT before although I personally not a fan.

    I have so any workout plans this week it’s crazy!

  10. I’ve been seeing the HIIT workout program on a lot of blogs lately. Congrats on your success with it. I’m not a natural runner (meaning I don’t like to run, LOL) so that’s a little intimidating. I’m going to continue to watch your journey to see what you think about the program after a few weeks.

  11. Girrrlll, I can only imagine what a HIIT workout must look like on a elyptical lol! Kudos to you on the 2lbs! I just started doing HIIT workouts I went on the the dailyhiit.com and found one to do and it was pretty intense. I am hoping to see weightloss, an improvement in my metabolism and just a leaner figure overall
