This week has been a pretty cool week, from dodging the very drunk New Yorkers on St. Patrick’s Day to taking a day off yesterday to re-calibrate my brain and body, I am happy to see the weekend!
Let’s get right into health and fitness for the week!
Wednesday: 3 Miles and 30 Minutes Strength Training
Thursday: Took a day off to relax
Friday: BodyPump or 3 miles and Strength Training (undecided!)
Saturday: Teaching Zumba at the Dojo
I’ve been sticking with my new and improved healthy eating in preparation for NYC marathon this year–but it hasn’t been easy. I didn’t realize the bad habits that I had fallen into until I stopped doing them. I know (from previous diet clean ups) that the first three weeks are the hardest and it becomes a bit of a detox period but, I am happy to say that the raw vegetables don’t taste so um, foreign anymore so that’s a win. It’s the other things like the sugar monster that decided to poke me when I least expect it–especially when I go to events! Check out this donut wall–I didn’t have one but boy do I wish I did!
Lunch is incredibly difficult however–I know it seems super simple to most but with my food allergies (and dietary preferences) finding something to eat in Times Square everyday is neither healthy NOR cheap. If it’s healthy its crazy expensive ($15 for a meal anyone??) or if it’s cheap it’s incredibly unhealthy (food truck empanadas for $3? anyone?). Now I’m in the business of trying to recreate my favorite healthy meals at home–on the cheap. I will keep you posted on how that goes!
I wasn’t as sore as I expected from running the Rock N Roll DC Half last weekend–I credit my SKINS compression pants. I need to wear them more often! (You guys won’t judge my instagram pics right??) I felt good enough to go to BodyPump on Monday and really get my lift on. Plus I wore my Balance Bar Tee with the workout leggings I got from Lysee (which did a phenomenal job of um, holding everything in, while being extremely comfortable).
I was able to get in 3 miles on Wednesday, and will likely try to do another 3 today. I have been looking into ways to improve my running and it looks like I will have to up my miles to really get any better. First thing that came to mind was WHO has time for this?! Next thing that came to mind: Make it happen.
In my quest for 9+1 the next race on the agenda is the Scotland 10k. I am looking forward to this one because it’s A) a local race B) There is no pressure and c)It’s in Central Park, in the SPRING! I have several races in CP before June and although those hills are nothing to sneeze at, I have a deep love for the beauty of that park! Plus I need to find a cute way to rock some green in my race outfit 🙂
