Celebrate Spring With Acts Of Happiness! #HappyActs

acts of happiness #happyacts

Spring is here!!

To say winter was hard seems like an incredible understatement. Exhausting. I think that is the correct word. I’m still not sure which is worse, back to back snow storms or walking around and waiting for my bus in -3 degree weather. It’s a close call! Either way I am very happy to see winter go!

With all of that said, today is the first day of spring! Yes, despite the still frigid temps, according to our calendar today is a day to be happy–old man winter be gone!

Like most Spring is my favorite season, it generally signifies new beginnings, warmer weather, beautiful flowers and more time spent outdoors instead of hiding from the snow being a house hermit.

Spring makes me happy! Why not celebrate by doing something that makes you happy today?

Last week I attended a fun event around Union Square that encouraged us to share what makes us happy. We would all write down what it was that made us happy and we posted it on this awesome happy wall! Here are some of the happy things that were shared:

What is the acts of happiness campaign?

The United Nations has declared March 20 International Day of Happiness, a day to celebrate happiness and an opportunity to start daily habits that will ignite smiles around the world. To commemorate this mission, Live Happy invites you to join their Acts of Happiness campaign, designed to gather stories, images, and video that share people’s #HappyActs and how they are making the world a happier place.

March 20th, 2014 marks the United Nations’ second annual International Day of Happiness. “Happiness Walls” are being built around the country to celebrate so that everyone around the country can post their Acts of Happiness to spread and share the joy!

Acts of Happiness is a global campaign created by Live Happy magazine to inspire the world to think, act, and live happy. Aligning with the United Nations’ International Day of Happiness on March 20, 2014, Acts of Happiness invites everyone to do good, feel good, and pledge their #happyacts on actsofhappiness.org.

Here are some examples of some happy acts you can perform today!

  • Write a thank you note to someone you learned a lesson or two from
  • Pay the toll for the car behind you
  • Split a cupcake with your friend
  • Pick up litter that you didn’t leave
  • Leave a word of encouragement on your coworker’s desk
  • Call up an old friend and tell him/her a joke
  • Reconnect with your grandparents, find out where they were at your age
  • Give a stranger a compliment
  • Donate—books, blood, clothes, wisdom, and anything else you’re lucky to have plenty of

How can YOU be apart of this awesome campaign?

Be creative – write a Tweet, take a picture, post a video, share with a friend! Get some Acts of Happiness ideas in order to create your own #HappyActs, learn where to find a happiness wall near you, and how to create a happiness wall in your home, office, or community. Don’t forget, we want you to spread the joy to the whole world, so be sure to post and tag your #HappyActs on actsofhappiness.org.

For every act of happiness that is posted to the virtual wall, $1 will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters! I think that is a good enough reason to do something that makes you happy today don’t you? :) Don’t forget to use the hashtag #happyacts!

What have you done lately that makes you truly happy? What is your favorite season?

  2. Love this and must admit that I love that today is the first day of Spring and that they combined it with this. And by the way, I like you have never been so happy to see the winter gone. Seriously this one was worse then we have had a few years, so good riddance to the cold and the snow :)

  4. Awesome! This makes me very happy too.
The sun isn’t out now but it’s supposed to be around 1:00 pm. At 12:57 is when spring officially starts, but who’s counting really? My kids are both sick so since our deck is always ten degrees warmer than the world when the sun is out, it should be 60 there! So maybe that will make me kids feel better to hang out on the deck. And since we really have no neighbors, I can yell my happy spring cry into the wilderness!

Ok, I sound crazy but winter has done this to me.

    • You are not crazy at all! Somehow, I completely understand. I hope you guys were able to enjoy the deck although it was a bit breezy today.

  5. Huh? Split a cupcake with a friend? I will do no such thang. This here Happiness Campaign is suspect.

  7. What a fun campaign!!!
I actually did something earlier today to help a young couple be able to afford their wedding venue (before I read about this) but I think it fits perfectly.

  8. I ADORE doing random acts of kindness because I love to see people smile! I love making people happy. This is also why I make my videos, because if I can make someone smile for even just 10 seconds, I feel like I have accomplished a lot! :)

  10. Going to sleep at night with a purring kitty next to me makes me happy. I’ve got my cat and it’s midnight, so I am going to bed. Midnight was my New Year’s Resolution time and I have broken it a whole bunch of times, so I need to get on that!

  11. You know I love this campaign, Nellie! How cool is that? I’m a great fan of random acts of kindness. They make me happy and, of course, make others happy. I’ve sort of made it a habit to call people or write them whenever they’re really heavy on my mind, and to surprise people with cards, gifts, or just a visit. It makes such a difference!

And spring is definitely my favorite season. It brings a smile to my face just thinking about it!

  14. I knew Thursday was the first day of Spring, and that was definitely a happy thought for me. Wish I’d seen this post sooner, so I could participate. But then again, there’s no need to contain acts of kindness/happiness to one day, right? I used to love Spring, but I think I’m leaning more toward Summer or Fall as my favorite season. I love going to the beach, sprinkler play with the kids, extra long days, and fireworks in July. But then Fall is always so welcome with the crisp air and all the festivals.
