6 Ways To Create A Better Workout Wardrobe

Finding the perfect balance between fashion and functionality when it comes to workout clothes can be a challenge. It’s no secret that I have a special place in my heart for stylish athletic gear. They offer a unique combination of comfort and style that’s hard to match with regular outfits! Moreover, it gives me the freedom to showcase my personality and style in creative ways.

I often receive compliments and queries about my workout wardrobe, which led me to share the secrets to revamping your fitness gear. Here are my 6 proven ways to makeover your workout wardrobe:

Embrace Bold and Bright Bottoms

On any given day at the gym, you’re likely to see a sea of women in black leggings, shorts, or capris. While black workout gear is undoubtedly functional and versatile, a true makeover requires a bold shift from the mundane. Consider stepping up your game with neon-colored tights or leggings with fun, trendy patterns. These can instantly brighten up your gym routine and make your workouts more enjoyable.

Replace the Oversized Tees

Oversized cotton t-shirts might be your go-to for a casual, comfy day at home, but they’re not doing your workout style any favors. I had to declutter my closet from these tees collected from various events – volunteering, fun runs, work events, and more. Instead, opt for fitted workout tops or tanks that are made from sweat-wicking fabrics to keep you cool and dry during intense workouts.

Colorize Your Workout Wardrobe

Don’t shy away from vibrant hues! Next time you’re shopping for workout clothes, experiment with less common gym colors like turquoise, fuchsia, red, or green. Investing in solid, colorful pieces not only adds versatility to your wardrobe but also breaks the monotony of black and white workout clothes.

Master the Art of Workout Outfit Planning

Going to the gym isn’t just about picking the topmost outfit from your clean laundry pile. Spend a few minutes each night planning your next day’s workout outfit. The aim is to avoid repeating an outfit within a month! Remember, not all tops complement all bottoms, and vice versa. Try different combinations, and you might just stumble upon some fabulous new looks.

Understand What Works for Your Body

This is crucial for both comfort and style. Understand your body type and shop accordingly. For instance, I prefer tops that are snug around the upper body and looser around the tummy. Not all styles will flatter every body type. The key is to find what suits you best and stick to it.

Invest in Workout-Specific Apparel

Workout gear isn’t one-size-fits-all when it comes to functionality. Different types of workouts call for different types of clothing. For instance, running gear is designed with specific features to enhance your running experience, like moisture-wicking fabrics, reflective elements, and a snug fit to reduce friction. Brands like Under Armour and ZUMBA Fitness have workout-specific lines to optimize your performance. So, always check the label before purchasing.

I usually wear cotton tees when working out before, you're right it's comfortable but not stylish.

Great tips! I definitely agree that plain black workout pants go with everything but are boring. I have SO many pairs of them, but lately I've been branching out and going for brightly colored capris. I'm loving it!

I actually just ordered a new workout outfit through Fabletics and am excited to get it. New workout clothes always make me look forward to working out!

ha! I laughed at your made up statistic. I liked it. Black pants seem to be more prevalent. Personally I like really bright pants. Like bright red!

Great tips. I agree about adding bright colors. I feel more motivated when I'm working out in something that is cheery.
