NYC Fit Brunch!

Last weekend I was invited to a brunch at the home of one of my favorite bloggers, Margo from BrooklynFitChick. I first met Margo at Fitbloggin 13 (I still think it’s crazy that I met so many people from NYC and Brooklyn all the way across the country in Portland OR!) and she was an absolute sweetheart.

After teaching Zumba that morning I came home and got ready for this fit brunch. Now I don’t know about you but when I think about brunch I think about bacon, eggs, more bacon and lots of potatoes :).This was a fit brunch so I had to really think about what I could bring that would travel well and be relatively healthy. Plus I really didn’t know which programs the other bloggers were on so I went in search of the perfect healthy brunch item.

The night before I put on my armor and went to Whole Foods in Union Square during rush hour. As soon as I walked in I saw this beautiful ginormous fresh cut fruit platter for just $20 bucks! Score!

My girl Cass came to pick me up (which was a Godsend because travelling public transportation across Brooklyn on the weekend is plain torture) and we had a fun ride to Park Slope. I probably chatted her ear off but that is what I do when I feel really comfortable with someone. (sorry Cass!)

When we got there we walked up to her beautiful apartment and made ourselves very comfortable. After a while more bloggers started coming including my girl Kelly from CurvyFitGirl, who gave me the best hug in Portland yet this was the first time we got a picture together!

There was so much yummy food! We chatted news, pop culture, blogger life,  everything you can imagine. What I loved about this brunch is that even though a lot of us had just met I felt immediately comfortable with these ladies. After chowing down and having some fun girl talk Margo showed us her Davinci Board that did all kinds of cool exercises.

As we left we even got a really great bag of swag that included workout dvds,  headbands,  shoelaces and more! I totally didn’t expect to get anything but it was such a nice touch to end the brunch.

Since it was snowing by now,  Cass and I headed out to travel back to the other side of Brooklyn. I may or may not have been extra chatty coming back. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

  1. I’m with you with what you thought brunch food would be. That’s awesome that you had a chance to get together with other bloggers like that! I would love to do that with bloggers from my area if there are any.

  10. I read this over at Cass’s! You all looked to be having a marvelous time. The swag bag was an extra nice touch. How did she work that out? I’m curious.

I agree with you on the thoughts for brunch, but being that I don’t like breakfast food, I like a brunch that has a bit of mixture with some lunch items as well.

  17. Looks like a great time was had by all, Nellie! I read Cass’s recap as well. So cool that you all were able to get together and have fun while exchanging good information. And for me, brunch always includes a quiche or two! Yum! But that fruit platter is the bomb. I’m a Whole Foods girl, although they drain my wallet every time I go there, like this morning. But the food is delish!

  20. Looks like you had a great time! I haven’t seen any other blogger get out and meet others as regularly as you do. So funny that you first met everyone 3,000 miles away! That fruit platter is gorgeous and a great choice. I have a bread pudding and a stuffed french toast recipe that I love for special occasion brunches, but they are RARELY ever used. A great healthy- and pretty- option is greek yogurt and fruit parfaits.
