My Thoughts On The (Dreaded) Scale + A Giveaway!

I think most of us have a love hate relationship with our scales, when they give us the result that we want we are crazy happy, when they don’t…well…it could get really ugly, really fast!

Conair has a new scale by Weight Watchers and it comes with encouraging sticky messages like smile, you go girl, etc. They sent me a sample of their scale and I love it because honestly, who doesn’t want to see these words greet you as you get ready to weigh yourself?

I love this because how many times have I begged the scale to be my friend? One of the crazy things about this whole weight loss thing is that we get all caught up in the number.

Let’s face it,  we love to tell folks that we have lost x amount of weight, but get equally as angry with the scale when things go wrong.

I strongly believe that you should decide when the scale works for you, whether its once a week, once a month, once every six months etc. There are so many conflicting reports of when to weigh, how often to weigh, or whether to weigh yourself at all!

I am of the personal opinion of weighing whenever you feel lighter.

That’s is my grand secret.

In addition to weighing myself however, I do use the scale for other reasons such as:

Weighing my bags before I get on the plane–I am a terrible overpacker.

Weighing my kids–especially after my youngest lost so much weight in the hospital

I have been crazy tough on myself lately when it comes to the scale because I am a tad bit impatient and all though the weight is going places and sometimes making a return trip, I will be easier on myself and “smile” when I get on the scale.

Great news! I have a Conair digital scale for giveaway! Please make sure you enter through the raffle copter widget below (the only way your entries are counted):

  1. My husband and I debate about using a scale all the time. As a former professional athlete I think that’s why he’s really into having one and I never had one in the house until we got married. Instead I go by how my clothes fit and what my dr. says at my annual check-up and after 32 years it’s been working!

I usually don’t like the scale especially now that I’m pregnant but I think after the pregnancy it would be good to have to track my progress because I will lose this weight.

  3. we dont have one but id love to get one

  4. I say you always need a scale in the house. Just to keep tabs on myself.

  7. Found my way here from SITS. :) Our scale bit the dust about 8 months ago and we just haven’t gotten around to getting one. I’m trying to focus on eating healthier and feeling better….it’s a first for me. Although, I do get curious and that is when we turn on the Wii to check!) LOL

  8. I think a scale is a useful tool to track progress, but I don’t obsess over the numbers, but instead I concentrate on how I am feeling.

  9. I stand on my scale every day…obsessive? That way I can stop any rot before it starts!

  10. I don’t have a scale unless the wii fit counts and that scale says I am obese the line goes all the way to the top.

  11. Oh gosh. My scale. For the most part I weigh myself weekly. Which is great when the scale is saying all the right things. LOL. I find if I don’t weigh myself weekly then weight can really creep on me. I don’t like weighty surprises. I like to know what’s going on even if I don’t like the number on the scale.
That said, I am thinking of also including things like how I feel and how my clothes fit in addition to the scale.

  12. I have a love, hate relationship with the scale too but it’s the only way that I feel that I can somewhat stay accountable so I step on it weekly.

    Great giveaway too!
