I can’t “like” you on Facebook…no offense?

I love a good blog giveaway!

Don’t we all?

I personally have been hooked since I won a couple late last year, its the thrill of the entry–a couple of clicks here, a few words there and bam! You could win too! It’s a win win!

I personally feel its the closest I’ve ever come to gambling! This is definitely more of a raffle type situation than a vegas situation so I don’t think I need to worry about picking up any new vices :)

However, the thrill and the excitement of a blog giveaway dims a little for me when I see that one of the mandatory entries is to “like” the blog/giveaway host on facebook.

I don’t *have* a facebook page. On purpose.

I left the facebook life last april for reasons perfect for another blog post.

I miss the good old days when all you had to do was leave a comment.

Now in addtion to the social security number of my first born, I *have* to like a FB page to get on even ground with all the other entrants!

Phooey!

*shakes fists at bloggers who discriminate on folks who hates the facebook*

In related news: I will be hosting my first blog giveaway on superbowl Sunday, which is also my birthday!

(Let’s go Giants!!!!)

I will have minimal rules, I promise. Stay Tuned.

What do you think of blogger giveaway rules? Too much? Too little?

I don’t like that either because I do have Facebook but dont use it as much and I don’t want to connect it to my blog in any way.

  2. jaclyn.vernace says:

While I’m rooting for the Patriots, I won’t discriminate on the Giants. I am from Ny… hahaha

And I’m sooo with you on the whole “liking” Facebook page nonsense. That means my personal news feed will be filled with all your promotional nonsense. Don’t like having to connect my blogging life with my personal life. :)

  3. Too many rules! I dont like following blogs on FB bc they normally just post their posts. Well I have your blog in my reader so I know when you post. I dont need that in my FB feed too. I would love to just be able to leave a comment to enter a giveaway.

  4. April Dorris says:

I agree completely. I especially hate the ones where you have to leave a comment on the blog, like a facebook page and sign up for a newsletter. It drives me crazy! I never enter any that require me to do more than leave a comment.

  5. Bloggers are trying to build up their followers so I can understand why they do it. Sometimes it can get overwhelming but then you have the choice to not enter.

  6. I have entered a few giveaways but honestly the ones that make it easy are my favorites. I have a fan page that I’ll use for the giveaway FB likes. I don’t use my personal acct for any of it.
I understand why people do it, but it isn’t for me if I did a giveaway.
I can’t wait to see what you have in store.

  7. Diane Thies says:

The new mandatory one I’m seeing that gets me is adding them to your circle (or whatever it is) in Google +. Sorry, not on Google +, just let me leave a blog comment to enter!

  8. Kirsten- The Foreign Domestic says:

I’m about to host my first giveaways in the next week, how do I set it up so it doesn’t discriminate against non-facebook users? So much to think about :)

    PS–GO PATRIOTS!!!!!

  9. mamaviolet says:

I think there should be a number of options to enter without having any being mandatory.

I have liked so many pages on fb that it is hard to find the status of my friends.

  10. Mrs.Pancakes says:

Lol!! I think some of the rules can be too much! But I guess it’s a great way for people to get more followers in other social media arenas! Can’t wait to see your first giveaway!

  11. I have never actually signed up for a giveaway. I get annoyed with all the “like” stuff on the blogs.

  12. I hear you. I’m cool if liking the FB page is an option not a requirement. I hardly enter any contests anyway though so what do I know!

  13. Yes, exactly how I would feel even if I had a fb account!

  14. I hear that! Sometimes when I see the 11 different ways to enter it makes my head spin!

  15. Me either, too much work.

  16. true! I guess its more about the blog than the giveaway sometimes…

  17. Yeah, 100% agreed on Google + I am none too familiar with that format, so I would NOT win that one! ha

  18. Yes, remember us non fb people! we matter too! :)

Patriot fan I see? let the best team (ahem, the giants) win! LOL

  19. I agree, making people follow you on 5 different networks is just so crazy (and time consuming)

  20. right! And I totally approve of that but mandatory entries are my beef, I want options!

  21. I agree, blog promotion can be a bit much sometimes but it is a necessary evil!

  22. ha! you should enter more! wouldn’t hurt!

  23. I don’t usually sign up for giveaways, just because of all the requirements. Leaving a comment is fine, but liking a Facebook page (or 2 in some cases) just puts it over the top for me.
